About Mrs. Watkins
Hello, Cadets and Parents! I am proud to say that the 2018-2019 school year will mark my tenth year teaching at the Delaware Military Academy. I grew up in Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey but moved to Newark, DE to attend the University of Delaware where I majored in English Education; I now possess a Bachelor's Degree in this field and have been considered a Highly Qualified Teacher in the State of Delaware upon graduation in 2009.
In the months following my graduation from UD, I was hired at the Delaware Military Academy as the sophomore English teacher. I absolutely love the content we cover in World Literature. Some of the texts we read include: Julius Caesar, Lord of the Flies, A Doll's House, Oedipus, and Nectar in a Sieve (Honors) to name a few! I am passionate about working with my students to help them effectively learn the content and successfully prepare for American Literature in their Junior Year. Our course is designed to cover a wide variety of literature across cultures around the world while following the nation-wide Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts Grade 10. Our standards include reading, writing (including grammar), listening, speaking, etc.
I also offer an exciting English Elective course for juniors and seniors called Studies in Drama in which we analyze various plays over the course of the semester.
At DMA, I am the Co-Adviser of the National Honor Society along with Mrs. Bradley.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two daughters, playing with my pets, and relaxing with friends and family.
I look forward to another great year at DMA in Grade 10 English and Studies in Drama! Please feel free to contact me at any time throughout the year! I am passionate about helping your Cadet succeed!
